The Gambia

In this tiny nation, geographic barriers and lack of infrastructure prevent women from reaching the care they need in a crisis.

Why We Work In The Gambia:

The Gambia is the smallest country on Africa’s mainland, but it is densely populated, with 2.6 million people living within the small nation. Though The Gambia has made meaningful progress in economic development, it continues to face deep challenges, including widespread poverty, inequality, and poor maternal health outcomes.

A shortage of trained surgeons, fragile health infrastructure, and the stigma surrounding childbirth injuries has resulted in a high burden of obstetric fistula.

What You Help Us Do

We are investing in the following areas to build The Gambia’s in-country medical services and provide life-transforming surgery to as many women as possible:

Meet Our Partners
