Fistula Foundation’s longtime partner and friend, Dr. Sunday Lengmang, is one of the world’s foremost fistula surgeons. He leads the fistula program at Evangel Vesico-Vaginal Fistula Center (EVVF) in Jos, Nigeria, where he has been working tirelessly to heal suffering women for over 15 years.
In addition to providing high-quality care at EVVF’s main hospital, Dr. Lengmang and his team also deploy mobile medical teams to reach isolated women in rural Nigeria. “Our team is thriving, and we are out fighting the scourge of fistula,” he proclaimed.
In a letter to Fistula Foundation, Dr. Lengmang described the team’s recent efforts to help fistula survivors in a rural Nigerian village. Despite limited resources, Dr. Lengmang and his team persisted in providing high-quality care to the local women, who would likely have remained untreated without their intervention.
Dr. Lengmang found one patient’s story particularly moving: “Her husband could not support her travel to [our main hospital] for surgery, [so] she was exceedingly grateful that we were able to make the trip to [her] village and perform this life-changing surgery. I told her about the Fistula Foundation’s support to us, and she specifically asked that we convey her gratitude to you.”
Fistula Foundation is proud to support Dr. Lengmang’s important work in Nigeria. Dr. Lengmang, thank you for your steadfast dedication to suffering women!
