Dr. Shershah Syed joined Fistula Foundation as a medical advisor in May 2024. Shershah is a Pakistani obstetrician and gynecologist, and an outspoken advocate for women’s rights, girls’ education, and safe motherhood practices. In 1991, Shershah founded the Pakistan National Forum on Women’s Health, a Fistula Foundation partner.
Shershah has more than three decades of experience in obstetrics and gynecology. He founded the Koohi Goth Women’s Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan which provides high-quality emergency care for poor, rural women, free of charge. His extensive experience is complemented by numerous books and publications on midwifery and safe motherhood.
As a medical advisor for Fistula Foundation, Shershah contributes a unique perspective on priority needs and challenges in the south-Asia sub-region. He is a passionate advocate working to promote high standards of care and best practices in fistula treatment and prevention.
