What is obstetric fistula?

Obstetric fistula is a childbirth injury that destroys a woman’s life.

In Africa and Asia, far too often, a woman who’s in obstructed labor and has no access to a C-section will develop a fistula. This leaves her incontinent, and too often an outcast in her community.

Surgery is the only cureOne fistula repair surgery costs $586 on average and often takes less than an hour to perform. It can restore a woman’s health—and give her hope for the future.

Fistula Foundation is the global leader in fistula treatment, providing more surgeries to more women than any other organization. For 15 years, we have received a four-star rating from Charity Navigatoran honor less than 1% of charities receive.
