One of our largest partners, WAHA International, has been listening closely to their fistula patients’ needs in Central Africa. They began a fistula treatment program in Burundi in 2014, but realized that the majority of patients were refugees fleeing violence in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In response, WAHA shifted their operation across the border to the DRC, and have continued their diligent work to reduce the large backlog of Central African women waiting for treatment.
They have shown no sign of slowing down—in fact, WAHA has encountered such a high demand for fistula treatment in 2017 that they surpassed their original projections by late summer. Because of supporters like you, we were able to deliver an extra grant, and help WAHA meet the overflowing need. Their outstanding medical team now looks ahead to 2018 with hope.
