Spotlighting Five Exceptional Network Partners

A map highlighting Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia

Collectively, our Fistula Foundation Treatment Networks (FFTNs) account for nearly 60% of the surgeries we provide each year, and represent areas of urgent, unmet need for fistula care. Below, our teams in Africa spotlight five exceptional FFTN partners who went the extra mile in 2025.

Democratic Republic of Congo: “Operating in an environment marked by war, insecurity, kidnappings, a lack of banking services and no airport, the team at Heal Africa remained on the ground, never abandoning patients, and exceeded their surgery goal by more than 300 surgeries.”—Pascal Vahwere, Program Director, Democratic Republic of Congo

Kenya: “Nyambene Sub-County Hospital has demonstrated steady growth in terms of surgeries conducted per year since inception of the partnership. As the flagship Fistula Foundation Treatment Network, we’ve learned that we need to be patient with new partners and new sites, because momentum takes time. Nyambene is proof that patience pays off—providing more than 70 life-transforming surgeries last year, nearly a 10-fold increase since 2022.”—Nelson Musa, Program Director, Kenya

Nigeria: “Sustainable Family Healthcare Foundation (SFHF) continues to exceed projections, surpassing its surgeon training target, and expanding training to nursing staff for strategic growth. Mrs. Peters, the founder of SFHF who led fistula care at the Ministry of Health for decades, is translating her deep knowledge about the unmet need across Nigeria into decisive action that heals more women.”—Clement Enenmoh, Program Coordinator, Nigeria

Tanzania: “Maternity Africa is an accredited training center by the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics, one of only two referral centers in the country, and was the best performer in terms of surgeries provided in Q4. It’s a strong model for our other partner sites.”—Clement Ndahani, Program Manager, Tanzania

Zambia: “Building on a legacy of service started in 2017, Mansa General Hospital reached a milestone of 135 surgeries, and emerged as a leader, effectively managing the entire care cycle with minimal oversight and highlighting the transformative power of institutional autonomy.”—Jameson Kaunda, Program Manager, Zambia
