Dr. Dolorès Nembunzu joined Fistula Foundation as a medical advisor in May 2024. Dolorès is a French-speaking Congolese obstetrician-gynecologist and expert fistula surgeon at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Dolorès has more than 35 years of experience in the field of medicine, and has specialized in fistula surgery for the past two decades. Over the course of her career, she has performed thousands of fistula repair surgeries, and has been a key figure in training other surgeons in the DRC. Dolorès has also held various leadership roles, including project director for the Momentum Safe Surgery in Family Planning and Obstetrics project with EngenderHealth and project manager for the Fistula Care and Fistula Care Plus projects. Her extensive work in maternal and reproductive health has established her as a respected expert and advocate in her field.
As a medical advisor for Fistula Foundation, Dolorès conducts monitoring and evaluation visits for partner sites across the region. She also offers coaching and mentorship to healthcare providers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to women suffering from obstetric fistula.
